Transitioning in the Southwest

Greetings from North Texas!

I’m slowly adjusting to life here after arriving Sunday afternoon. I’m in love with my apartment and will probably spend every second in here when I’m not at Baylor. If you follow me on instagram, you saw a few sneak peeks of it. Having a new place that I adore has really helped make the transition to life in Texas a little bit easier.

I have to admit, I really miss Arizona and feel a bit disoriented here. I haven’t learned my way around yet and have to rely on my iPhone maps app to get to anywhere— even the grocery store. I’m not giving up on Dallas yet, I know it will take time for me to adjust. I’ve only been here a few days–it will take me a while to get fully acclimated.

The bugs are killin’ me here, I’m literally getting eaten alive!

No matter how much bug repellant I put on, I still have bites all over my legs at the end of the day. On the bright side, I will say that despite what everyone here thinks–it’s not hot. Well, not in the same way that Arizona is. In my opinion, Arizona is much hotter.

Texas is definitely humid–there’s no denying that. But the direct sunlight in Arizona made it unbearable to be outside past 11:00 a.m. I had very little energy when I lived there, which I’m starting to think is related to the extreme heat.

I’ve been busy running errands nonstop and haven’t had internet until today, so I haven’t been able to keep up with the blog world! I plan on catching up this weekend and reading more of the blogs participating in this awesome group health & fitness giveaway.

I snapped a few pics (on the new camera) before I left Arizona last week. I think I’m the only person in the world that doesn’t have a problem wearing shorts (and actually prefer them). I stocked up on shorts when I moved to Arizona, and I really like the denim ecru shorts at J.Crew–super comfortable! They were running a promo when I got them and were reasonably priced. I also got this blouse which was a steal–and is 40% off right now!

I have a few more things to check off my “to do” list this week. My goal is to relax as much as possible before my internship starts the first week in August. I want to be rejuvenated and refreshed when I start–no more sleep deprivation!

I hope the adjustment to Dallas goes smoothly! I’ve only been there a few times but it seems like there is so much to do and explore! I hope you get settled soon :)

Thank you! It is definitely a bigger city than Phoenix (or at least more condensed) but I’m so excited to explore my surroundings!

Yay, you made it to Texas! Before you know it, you’ll be zipping around knowing exactly where you’re going and how to get there. I read a good blog post about giving yourself 6 months in a new area. I’ll try to find it and send it your way.

I need to read that article, it sounds like exactly what I need right about now! I definitely miss Arizona, but I’m starting to feel more comfortable in Texas each day. :)

I’m so glad that you made it safely! You absolutely can’t judge a new place based on the first few days. Yes, it sucks to have to rely on your map all the time, but it will get better. As far as the bugs go…I can’t promise you that will get better. Not being outside after dark (or wearing copious amounts of bug spray) really may be the only option. That’s what I have to do when I am home.

I believe it! I’ve begun to incorporate OFF into my beauty regimen everyday. Sad but true (and needed!). Thanks Amy! :)

Welcome to Texas! Hope you get settled very soon.

I’m glad you made it to Texas and I’m really glad that you like your apartment. I think moving is an adjustment for everyone–and you willllll adjust. All in time :)
